A Code of Ethics provides guidelines for those who engage in offering anger management services to the public. While you may be very familiar with mental health ethical guidelines–there are certain issues which you will want to be prepared to handle when providing services in the area of anger management. Some of the issues have to do with: avoiding dual relationships; maintaining confidentiality when clients/students are court or employer referred; maintaining confidentiality in groups and classes; reporting abuse; reporting and protecting clients who may be a threat to themselves or someone else; referring participants to other professionals or services because of mental health or other issues; providing services within your scope of training and credentials, etc.
