What is a cognitive distortion and why do so many people have them? Cognitive distortions are simply ways that our mind convinces us that something is true but really isn’t. These inaccurate thoughts are often used to reinforce negative thinking or emotions telling ourselves things that may sound rational and accurate, but are not.
The purpose of this course is to provide Anger Management Specialists and Providers with an understanding of the core distortions in thinking that people with anger control issues struggle with and then, empirically based strategies for challenging and changing thinking.
What Participants will Learn:
- To identity cognitive distortions and irrational beliefs which impair one’s thinking
- To explore the effects of distorted thinking
- To analyze the various techniques for restructuring distorted thinking
